Appointments
Please contact the artist of your choice directly through the avenues they have made available.
Accessibility
The Gear Factory is equipped with a ramp to the front door and an elevator to the studio, which is on the 3rd floor. The bathroom is handicap accessible. The floors of the Gear Factory are uneven or bumpy, as they are original to the building and very old. The studio is typically quiet, and can be made private to lessen sensory load.
Tattoo Prep
To best prepare for your appointment we ask that you arrive fed, hydrated, and sober. It helps if you moisturize your skin regularly for a few days in advance. You are welcome to bring water bottles and snacks with you, and we also offer a small snack selection and water in the studio. We look forward to seeing you!
Healing
Healing instructions vary from artist to artist, so follow the instructions they give! However, healing can be boiled down to these important points:
- If you have been given a second skin/Tegaderm/Saniderm bandage for your tattoo, leave it for about 5 days or until it starts to peel off.
- If you have been given a wrap to cover your new piece, take the wrap off after about two hours and wash with a gentle soap.
- Be mindful of how sensitive your skin is, and that tattooed skin is essentially a wound. A gentle bar soap is a great option.
- Wash twice a day for the first 3 days, then at least once a day for the next two weeks.
- Moisturize with a gentle lotion, or one that your skin tolerates well.
- Try to protect your tattoo from scrapes and scratches, as any additional wounds can cause your tattoo to become infected. This can look like wearing long pants/sleeves and being mindful of the area.
- Your tattoo will become itchy – don’t scratch or peel – it will be tempting, but this is a normal sensation. Putting lotion in the fridge can help cool the itch.
- Protect your tattoo from the sun – cover it up and/or use sunscreen.
